Technology Developers and Host Sites Collaborate on the Future of Industry TechPosted by ENERGYWERX on Wednesday, October 1, 2025
Across the industrial sector, new technologies are being created to help companies save energy, work more efficiently, and operate in more sustainable ways. One of the biggest challenges is proving that these new solutions work outside of a lab and can deliver real benefits in everyday industrial settings. For full information about the ITV Program, please visit the ENERGYWERX’s Opportunity: https://www.energywerx.org/opportunities/industrial-technology-validation-itv-program. The Industrial Technology Validation (ITV) Program is designed to close the gap between “great ideas” and “real-world success.” Through the partnership of technology developers and industrial host sites, this program makes it possible to test and measure new technologies in action. Independent experts then analyze the results, which are shared publicly so other companies can see what works. This helps reduce risk, build confidence, and speed up the adoption of innovative tools that can make a big difference across industries. What is the Industrial Technology Validation (ITV) Program? The Industrial Technology Validation (ITV) Program is a U.S. Department of Energy initiative designed to accelerate the adoption of innovative industrial technologies that improve energy efficiency, productivity, and sustainability. Through the program, technology developers will partner with industrial facilities to install and test emerging or underutilized solutions in real-world settings. The ITV Program will help break down barriers to commercialization, enabling promising technologies to scale and deliver measurable benefits to the broader energy ecosystem. To participate, technology developers and industrial host sites must apply jointly; technology developers without a planned host site will not be eligible to apply. ENERGYWERX is compiling a Teaming Partner List to facilitate the formation of project teams for this Solicitation. The Teaming Partner List allows entities that may wish to participate on a project to express their interest to other applicants and explore potential partnerships.
Eligible host sites must be an operational industrial site, e.g., a manufacturing facility, water or wastewater treatment plant, or a data center. There are no specific industrial sectors of interest. Potential technology developers could include, but are not limited to:
Eligible technologies for consideration must be capable of demonstrating a clear benefit for the host site. An eligible technology must be developed to the point where it is ready for installation and assessment in an industrial setting. Furthermore, technologies must fit one of the following categories:
Both technology developer and host site must qualify as a domestic entity. Additionally, please note that DOE national laboratories are not eligible to apply as technology developers. There is no specific requirement for scale of installation required. Eligible projects could include a permanent, full-scale installation of an underutilized technology, or a partial scale, temporary installation (e.g., side-stream configuration) of a pre-commercial technology. This opportunity is open for applications through January 29, 2026. Why is ENERGYWERX involved in facilitating the ITV Program?ENERGYWERX is a neutral facilitator due to a Partnership Intermediary Agreement (PIA) with the Department of Energy. ENERGYWERX will be coordinating the collection of applications, disbursement of funds, and management for the ITV Program. The intent is for selectees to receive a formal Business-to-Business (B2B) Research and Development Agreement (RDA) and Statement of Effort (SOE) as a sub-award (15 U.S. Code, Section 3715) from ENERGYWERX.
