U.S. manufacturers continue to navigate a business environment shaped by both persistent challenges and emerging opportunities. Throughout 2025, the industrial sector faced ongoing cost pressures, tight labor conditions, and continued geopolitical uncertainty, while also benefiting from steady production levels and targeted investments in capacity, automation, and domestic manufacturing.

One of the defining themes of the year remained supply chain resilience. After years of disruption, manufacturers continued to prioritize local sourcing, shorten supply chains, and diversify supplier networks. These shifts supported operational continuity and reflected a broader effort to reduce exposure to overseas risk and pricing volatility. This focus on domestic sourcing has also been reinforced by federal initiatives aimed at strengthening U.S. manufacturing, including the U.S. Small Business Administration’s efforts to support supplier discovery and onshoring through partnerships with industry data providers like IndustryNet.

Inflation eased compared to prior years, but input costs remained elevated for many manufacturers. As a result, sourcing strategies stayed front and center, with companies actively searching for new suppliers to manage expenses, improve reliability, and maintain flexibility in an uncertain economic environment.

Search activity on IndustryNet in 2025 offers a clear window into these priorities. Demand patterns point to continued strength in construction-related products and services, alongside steady interest in core manufacturing inputs such as chemicals, adhesives, lumber, steel, and contract manufacturing services.

Categories tied to construction, infrastructure, and facility investment ranked prominently among the most-searched items on the platform, reflecting ongoing activity in nonresidential construction, industrial development, and maintenance-driven demand.

At the same time, tariff uncertainty and shifting trade dynamics continued to influence sourcing behavior, driving increased interest in domestic suppliers across key material categories.

As manufacturers adapt to these conditions, many are turning to IndustryNet, the free industrial marketplace and an SBA-supported resource, to connect with U.S.-based suppliers and support their sourcing needs. What were industrial buyers searching for most in 2025.

Let’s take a look.
